Der diesjährige Hilfstransport von Alzey in die Ukraine wurde als Kooperation vom Sankt Lazarus-Orden und der Evangelischen Kirchengemeinde Alzey im Zeitraum 11.09.2025 bis 17.09.2025 durchgeführt. Das Team bestand aus Matthias Kiene und Dirk Augustin. Auf der Rückfahrt wurden wir von der Ukrainerin Tetjana S. begleitet, die insbesondere bei dem Grenzübertritt Ukraine/ Polen sehr hilfreich war.
This year’s aid transport from Alzey to Ukraine was carried out as a cooperation between the Order of Saint Lazarus and the Protestant parish of Alzey from 11 September 2025 to 17 September 2025. The team consisted of Matthias Kiene and Dirk Augustin. On the return journey, we were accompanied by Tetjana S. from Ukraine, who was particularly helpful when crossing the border between Ukraine and Poland.
Anreise / Arrival
Am 12.09.25 startete die Fahrt von Alzey mit einer Übernachtung in Posen (Polen). Der Grenzübertritt in die Ukraine verlief problemlos. Es waren nur drei Fahrzeuge vor uns. Die ukrainischen Beamten waren sehr hilfsbereit. Alle Formalitäten gingen schnell, auch ohne Sprachkenntnisse.
On 12 September 2025, the journey began in Alzey with an overnight stay in Poznań (Poland). Crossing the border into Ukraine went smoothly. There were only three vehicles ahead of us. The Ukrainian officials were very helpful. All the formalities were completed quickly, even without any language skills.
Station Cherkassy
Nach einer Zwischenübernachtung in der Westukraine erreichte das Team am 13.09.25 die Stadt Cherkassy in der Zentralukraine. Dort wurden am 14.09.25 Windeln für Erwachsene, Verbandsstoffe, medizinische Geräte und Medikamente im Wert von 8.000 € an ein Krankenhaus ausgeliefert. Abends fanden Gespräche mit den Vertrauenspersonen Oleg B. und Tetjana S. statt. Diese Gespräche sind wichtig, um für die Zukunft weiterhin geeignete Empfänger auszuwählen und die korrekte Verwendung von Spenden zu sichern.
After spending the night in western Ukraine, the team reached the city of Cherkasy in central Ukraine on 13 September 2025. There, on 14 September 2025, adult nappies, bandages, medical equipment and medicines worth €8,000 were delivered to a hospital. In the evening, discussions were held with the representatives Oleg B. and Tetjana S. These discussions are important in order to continue to select suitable recipients for the future and to ensure the correct use of donations.
Station Luzk
Am 15.09.25 verließ das Team Cherkassy in Richtung Luzk. In Luzk wurden die von der Evangelischen Kirchengemeinde und dem Lazarus-Orden gesammelten Kuscheltiere, Spielzeuge und Bastelmaterial am 16.09.25 an den Kindergarten der Hilfsorganisation „way to life +“ übergeben. Die Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Alzey unterstützt seit letztem Jahr diesen Kindergarten zusätzlich mit einer monatlichen Spende in Höhe von 500 €. Durch den Lazarus-Orden und das „Hilfswerk der deutschen Zahnärzte“ (eine dem Lazarus Orden nahestehende Organisation), werden weitere Projekte der Hilfsorganisation „way to life +“ finanziell unterstützt. Die für den aktuellen Monat anstehenden Zahlungen wurden in Bar übergeben um so die hohen Gebühren für die Auslandsüberweisungen in diesem Monat einzusparen.
On 15 September 2025, the team left Cherkasy for Lutsk. In Lutsk, the cuddly toys, toys and craft materials collected by the Protestant parish and the Lazarus Order were handed over to the kindergarten of the aid organisation „way to life +“ on 16 September 2025. Since last year, the Protestant parish of Alzey has also been supporting this kindergarten with a monthly donation of €500. The Lazarus Order and the „Hilfswerk der deutschen Zahnärzte“ (an organisation closely associated with the Lazarus Order) provide financial support for other projects run by the aid organisation „way to life +“. The payments due for the current month were handed over in cash in order to save on the high fees for international transfers this month.

„Way to life +“ verteilt zweimal pro Woche in einem Park in Luzk warme Mahlzeiten an Bedürftige. Dies geschieht bei jedem Wetter und unter freiem Himmel. Am Besuchstag half das Team bei der Ausgabe der Mahlzeiten mit. Zusätzlich wurden durch uns an diesem Tag auch Tüten mit Lebensmitteln (Buchweizen, Konserven, …), die seit zwei Jahren vom „Hilfswerk der deutschen Zahnärzte“ und dem Lazarus-Orden finanziert werden, ausgegeben. Dabei wurde die große Not der Menschen deutlich. Viele waren ungeduldig aus Angst, leer auszugehen und kleine Drängeleien konnten nicht unterbunden werden. Die Ausgabe der Tüten erfolgt dreimal im Jahr. Jeweils anlässlich unseres Besuches sowie zu Weihnachten und zu Ostern. Das Team konnte in diesem Jahr auch weitere Einrichtungen von „way to life +“ kennenlernen. Dazu gehören eine Unterkunft für Binnenflüchtlinge sowie ein kleines Rehabilitationszentrum für Suchtkranke und Obdachlose. Es wurde wieder sichtbar, dass die Organisation breit aufgestellt ist, die handelnden Personen aus einem tiefen persönlichen Glauben heraus agieren und jede Spende sinnvoll eingesetzt wird. Wir sind froh, dass wir mit „way to life +“ einen zuverlässigen und aktiven Projektpartner in der Ukraine gefunden haben.
Twice a week, Way to Life + distributes hot meals to people in need in a park in Lutsk. This takes place in all weather conditions and in the open air. On the day of our visit, the team helped to distribute the meals. In addition, we also handed out bags of food (buckwheat, tinned food, etc.), which have been financed by the „Hilfswerk der deutschen Zahnärzte“ (German Dentists‘ Aid Organisation) and the Lazarus Order for two years. The great need of the people became clear. Many were impatient for fear of going away empty-handed, and minor jostling could not be prevented. The bags are distributed three times a year: on the occasion of our visit, at Christmas and at Easter. This year, the team also had the opportunity to visit other „way to life +“ facilities. These include accommodation for internally displaced persons and a small rehabilitation centre for addicts and homeless people. Once again, it became clear that the organisation is broadly based, that the people involved act out of a deep personal belief and that every donation is put to good use. We are glad that we have found a reliable and active project partner in Ukraine in „way to life +“.
Rückreise / return journey
Auf der Rückfahrt am 17.09.25, im direkten Anschluss an die Lebensmittel-Ausgabe, musste das Team einen Umweg von 50 km fahren, da der Grenzübergang den wir bei den vergangenen Hilfstransporten nutzten, kurz vor unserer Ankunft durch die polnische Seite vorübergehend geschlossen wurde. Ein Teil der neuen Strecke führte uns nun über sechs Kilometer Feldweg. Die Landschaft war schön, der Weg jedoch beschwerlich. An dem alternativ ausgewählten Grenzübergang hatten wir Glück und durften die für Diplomaten vorgesehene Spur nutzen. Die Abfertigung erfolgte dort sehr schnell und unkompliziert. Am 18.09.25 kehrte das Team gesund nach Alzey zurück. Wir sind Gott dankbar für Bewahrung und eine gelungene, erfolgreiche Fahrt.
On the return journey on 17 September 2025, immediately after distributing food, the team had to take a 50 km detour because the border crossing we had used for previous aid transports was temporarily closed by the Polish side shortly before our arrival. Part of the new route now took us along six kilometres of dirt road. The landscape was beautiful, but the road was difficult. We were fortunate at the alternative border crossing and were allowed to use the lane reserved for diplomats. The clearance process there was very quick and straightforward. On 18 September 2025, the team returned safely to Alzey. We are grateful to God for His protection and for a successful journey.
